PHS Hosts Celebration for Seniors Who Will Play Collegiate Athletics

photo of students who will go on to play sports in college Missing from photo: Dane Stephens Plainville High School hosted an “Athletic Celebration” on June 17th for seniors who will be going on to play collegiate athletics. The event was organized by Plainville Community Schools’ Athletic Director Chris Farrell. “The student athletes from the Class of 2019 are just remarkable,” said Farrell.
Caitlin Barker will be attending Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she will compete on the Division 3 Women’s Basketball Team. Caitlin has been a four year starter for basketball and played soccer for four years at Plainville High School, three years as a varsity player. Caitlin was captain of both the Girls’ Basketball and Girls’ Soccer Teams at Plainville High School.
Brady Callahan will be attending Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut and will become a member of the Division III Football Program. Brady has been a member of the varsity football program at Plainville High School for the past four years. He was also a member of the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Baseball Programs, and was a three sport captain.
Callia Donahue will be attending the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, as a member of the Division 1 Cheerleading Team. Callia has been cheering for 13 years. She was also a member of the Outdoor Track and Field Program at Plainville High School for the past three years.
Cheyenne Gregory will attend Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut, where she will be a member of the Division 1 Cheerleading Team. She has participated in cheerleading for four years at Plainville High School. She was also a member of the Outdoor Track and Field Program, and was a captain for both sports.
Samantha Lozefski will be attending the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. She will become a member of the Division 1 Women’s Track and Field Team. Samantha was a three year varsity member of the Outdoor Track and Field Program, four year varsity member of the Girls’ Basketball Team, and a two year varsity member of the Girls’ Volleyball Team. She was captain of all three teams during her senior year.
Morgan Rogers will be attending Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. She will join the Division 1 Swim Team. Morgan has been swimming competitively for eight years, primarily backstroke and individual medley.
John Siani will be attending Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He will join the Division 1 Track and Field Team. John has been participating in track since middle school, and plans on competing in the decathlon in college. John was also a member of the PHS Boys’ Soccer Team.
Sydni Spencer will be attending the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, as a member of the Division 1 Cheerleading Team. Sydni has been a member of the PHS Cheerleading Program for four years and the Outdoor Track and Field program for three years.
Tyler St. Onge will be attending Inspiration Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he will be joining the Baseball Program. Tyler was a member of the Plainville High School Baseball and Swim Teams.
Sarah Tomczyk will become a member of the Division 2 Women’s Soccer Program at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Sarah has played soccer for 14 years, varsity for three years. She was also a varsity tennis player at Plainville High School, and served as Captain for both the Girls’ Soccer and Tennis Teams.
Michael “Mikey” Torres will be attending the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, where he will join the Division 3 Soccer Team. He was a four year varsity soccer player at Plainville High School and served as captain of the PHS team.
Dane Stephens will be attending Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut. He will be participating in their Division 1 Soccer Program. Dane was a four year varsity player at Plainville High School, and was named the MVP of the State championship game.
“We are incredibly proud of these student athletes and wish them the best in their future athletic endeavors. We couldn’t be happier that they will continue to be ambassadors of PHS and show more people the level of students we have at this great school,” noted Plainville High School Principal, Carl Johnson.
“Plainville High School has outstanding academic and athletic programs that support the tremendous level of success represented by this talented and dedicated group of graduating student athletes and all who participate in high school athletic programs. I couldn’t be more proud of our students for their many achievements in the classroom and through athletics. I offer my sincere congratulations to these students and their families, and my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Farrell, the PHS administration, faculty and staff for their important role in promoting such high level success,” added Superintendent-elect, Steven LePage.
