District Recognized For Excellence In Leadership And Communication

The Plainville school district has been recognized with several awards from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), according to Superintendent of Schools, Brian Reas. The Plainville Board of Education received the “CABE Board Leadership Award” which highlights excellence in Board Leadership / Student Achievement, Professional Development, Policy, Community Relations and Related Organizational Leadership. This awards program was created in 1998 to recognize excellence in the leadership activities of local boards of education. This is the 14th consecutive year that the Plainville Board of Education has received this award. The group was recognized at the 2023 CABE/CAPSS Convention on November 17th.

Career Focused Learning Adventure Day at PHS

Plainville High School students explored a wide variety of careers during the Career Focused Learning Adventure Day held on November 8th! Aligned with the 16 National Career Clusters, student groups participated in several curated sessions featuring visits to host sites across the state, hands on career related activities, vocational speaker panels, and much more.

MSP Students Participate in Leadership Training

Nine students from the Middle School of Plainville along with faculty member / advisor, Camille Westfall, traveled to Cabela’s in East Hartford to participate in a leadership training event, hosted by the Connecticut TSA (Technology Student Association). The Plainville students joined peer members from across Connecticut for the training event. The students participated in discussions and activities designed to improve their leadership skills, and several MSP students won prizes for their outstanding performance during the day.

Veterans Honored

Veterans near and far were honored at all five Plainville schools on November 10th. Each school planned unique, respectful, educational programs featuring guest speakers, musical performances, poems, video tributes, artwork, refreshments and more. Veteran guests visited each school and participated in the special programming.

Grit 'N Wit at MSP!

The Middle School of Plainville community was very excited to host, for the first time, the Plainville-based organization, "Grit 'N Wit" on October 27th. The Grit 'N Wit group provided an inclusive, engaging experience for 7th- and 8th-graders that encouraged students to overcome an equal number of physical and mental challenges. This experience supported the Plainville Community Schools Portrait of the Graduate tenets of being: Collaborative; Communicative; Innovative; Mindful, and Resilient.

Wheeler Faculty Members Recognized By Hartford Wolfpack Program

The Hartford Wolfpack Organization with mascot "Sonar" recently visited the classrooms of Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School faculty members Samantha Woodward and Sarah Miller to share backpack prizes for their students. The Wolfpack group held a contest over the summer asking individuals to nominate their favorite teachers. They received many nominations, and both Samantha and Sarah were selected as winners!

MSP Hosts Paint Night

Students, families and faculty at the Middle School of Plainville came together in October for a night of fun and creativity at MSP’s “Chilln’ With My Gnomies” Paint Night. The participants created unique, hand painted ceramic gnomes. This event was a fundraiser hosted by Middle School Art Teacher Laura Meehan and MSP’s Parent Teacher Club. Proceeds from the paint night went to support the Middle School's recent "Grit and Wit" event.

MSP Robotics Teams Kick of Season With Multiple Wins

The Middle School of Plainville's VEX Robotics Program, led by faculty member and advisor Camille Westfall, soared in their first competition of the season held on November 3rd in Madison, Ct. Raman and Siamion Kasabrukhau won the Excellence Award, a Teamwork Award, and the Autonomous Skills Award. Ansh Patel and Evan Rodriguez also won a Teamwork Award. Together, the two teams had the highest scores of the tournament, placing first and second out of 19 teams.

MSP Students Explore Aerospace

A group of Middle School of Plainville students, together with faculty members Camille Westfall and Kim Coyle, explored careers in Aerospace Manufacturing at the ACM Manufacturing Expo. The students were able to network with representatives from a number of aerospace related manufacturers to ask questions and learn about careers in the field.

MSP Art Club Members Visit NBMAA

Members of the Middle School of Plainville's Art Helper’s Club, led by Faculty member Laura Meehan, recently attended a field trip to the New Britain Museum of American Art. Students were able to experience a guided tour of the museum's Contemporary Art collection. The students participated in discussions about art, and had the opportunity to create their own unique piece of art inspired by the museum collection. The Art Helpers Club is a group of Middle School students who meet twice a month to create community service based art projects.

November PCS All Stars!

The November Plainville Community Schools “All-Star” award winner, Plainville High School Custodian Dan Caron, was recognized at the November 13th Board of Education meeting. The “All-Star” award recognizes students, faculty, staff and community members who go above and beyond in modeling the school district’s Portrait of the Graduate characteristics and demonstrating excellence in alignment with the school district's team goals.
