Plainville High School hosted a “STEM & Manufacturing Career Panel” event for students on November 28th. The program was coordinated through the district’s School Business Community Partnership Program and featured speakers from Trumpf, Manafort Brothers, Fluid Control Solutions, ACME Monaco, DATTCO, and Tunxis Community College.
The program began with opening remarks from Assistant Superintendent of Schools Steven LePage and State Representative William Petit. Speakers then provided an overview of their respective companies and organizations, as well as information about current and future employment opportunities for students, and offered advice about preparing for careers in the manufacturing and STEM fields. The program concluded with a question and answer session for students in attendance.
“This was the first year for this event that we plan to continue. The feedback from the students who attended was overwhelmingly positive. We work very hard to show our students the range of careers to consider as they get ready to begin their adult lives,” noted Plainville High School Principal, Carl Johnson.
“As a school district, we recognize the need for our students to learn about a wide array of available career options once they leave high school. The professionals who participated in our STEAM/Manufacturing career panel are an invaluable resource as our students make their post-secondary plans,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.
